For Beginner students...here's a sample lesson on how to play a D chord:
Irene offers private lessons, beginners to intermediate, in the Victoria, BC (Fernwood/Hillside) area to people of all ages. The emphasis is on learning for fun, and although she occasionally provides some basic theory, learning to play the songs you love is most important! Songs can be chosen from a database of hundreds, or Irene can work out your favourite songs from tape or CD. Lessons are given in Irene's basement studio on Fernwood Road. The lessons are relaxed, positive and ALWAYS fun. The cost is $16 per half hour for private lessons, $12.50 per person for two or more people. There are always plenty of daytime slots available. Level 1 - For absolute beginner students, learn some basic chords and strums, play some songs and have a hoot!
No previous musical experience necessary. Just bring a guitar and a desire to learn! Lessons begin every September and are approx. 1 hour long each.
Ladies Level 1 - For absolute beginner students, ladies only. Learn some basic chords, play some songs, all in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

***Note: classes often continue through the year if enough participants are interested, but occasionally if time becomes available, a new beginner class is created.

Level 2 - For those of you who have either completed Level 1 or who have some basic knowledge of the guitar, including common chords and strumming patterns.
Ladies Level 2 - For ladies who have some basic experience with playing common chords or who have already taken Level 1. Please Email for times and dates.

Private Online Lessons Using Skype
If you live outside the Victoria, BC area or you are housebound, here's an alternative to in-person lessons!
Using Skype and a webcam and microphone, private lessons will be scheduled with Irene online at the same cost as regular private lessons. You will need to download the program, and have a webcam with either a built-in microphone or one that is separate, and a high-speed cable or ADSL internet connection. [***Note-- headsets with mics will not work as they can't pick up the sound of your guitar***]
Lessons will be scheduled weekly at a time that works for both student and teacher, and songs will be emailed to you in .doc format. Irene's hours are in Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you'd like to take a "dry run" or test your connection, email Irene and set up a time to try it out!
Payments can be made either by mailed cheque or online with Paypal.
